Cancer Awareness

Important to step up cancer literacy and knowledge amongst the population

About Cancer Awareness

Shri Vardhman Jagruti Yuvak Mandal organises various programs to generate awareness about cancer. We would like to reach maximum number of patients and care-givers for counseling, guidelines and information while they are fighting their battle with cancer.
Cancer awareness in the general population is an absolute essential and the basis on which a cancer-control programme can be constructed. Elements that go into cancer awareness and prevention efforts include knowledge of the problem and its solutions, a group of people who respect and care for the populations they want to serve, and resources. Here we discusses the importance of cancer awareness to cancer control and outlines some successful cancer awareness and control programmes in India. Awareness campaigns can also be used to recruit assistance and resources from governments, non-governmental organisations and pharmaceutical companies. Potential funders will provide support if they see a well-defined problem, a solution that is likely to be implemented and likely to work and organisations that can implement that solution.
We realise that the extent of the problem is too large. 1 out of 2 men and 1 out of 3 women have a probability of developing cancer in their life. Cancer awareness among the public should be enhanced in line with the increased cancer occurrence. The number of unregistered cases could be many fold more. Each patient would have atleast 4 immediate & 4 extended family members. So the total number of directly and indirectly affected people is more than 2.25 crore.
“To make a difference in someone’s life, you do not have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect. You just have to care enough and be there.”

World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer and is an opportunity to rally the international community to end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer.
